If Someone Threatens to Share

Iris, your guide
Iris says: “A threat is not a deadline. You can stop, and you can tell.”

Do these first:

  • Stop replying if talking to them is making the pressure worse.
  • Don't pay.
  • Don't send more.
  • Save what you safely can: usernames, account names, links, dates and times, threats, the messages around them, payment requests. Don't copy, forward, or share any intimate images.
  • Tell a safe person.
  • You are not alone.

The shame belongs to the person making threats — not you. Sending something, even if you chose to, doesn't take away your right to help. You're not in trouble for asking.

If you're feeling overwhelmed or thinking about hurting yourself, you can reach crisis support right now.
