The Way Back

Plan

Iris, your guide

Plan

After you step away, the other person might try to reach you again. There might be rumors, pressure, or moments when you want to reach out yourself. Planning ahead makes those moments easier.

You could plan:

  • what to do if they message or show up
  • who to tell right away
  • what to say if people ask questions: "I don't want to talk about it."
  • what to do when you miss them and want to reach out

If someone is controlling, threatening or tends to get back at people, creating distance can sometimes increase risk. You don't have to announce your plan or do it alone. Bring in a safe adult or support service.
